Home of the Thermite 3D Engine and PolyVox Technology
What is the Thermite?Thermite is an experimental 3D game engine primarily designed as a show case for PolyVox technology. It integrates PolyVox technology with various other components in order to produce highly dynamic game environments which can be easily modified in real time. It is released as open source software under the terms of the GNU Public License. For more details please see the overview of Thermite here. What is PolyVox Technology?PolyVox is a game engine component which stores virtual environments using a volumetric representation. This differs from the more common surface representations in that it allows real time modification to be performed much more easily. PolyVox also handles the generation of triangles meshes so that the technology can be easily integrated into existing game engines. Like Thermite, it is release as open source under the terms of the GNU Public License. For more details please see the overview of PolyVox here.
See it in action! The implications of PolyVox's volumetric representation are perhaps best understood by seeing it in action. The video below shows how a castle can be carved up while numerous rigid bodies bounce around and interact with the environment. You can download a higher quality version by clicking here. You may also need the XViD codecs. |
